Christian skits can be very effective. They can get people’s attention and promote discussion. They can also serve as a bit of light-hearted entertainment with a message of morality. They can be dramatic or downright frightening. There is a Christian skit to fit just about any service or program. So, what are some of the types of Christian skits out there?
Monologue
Christian skits that are set up as a monologue involve a single person. Although there isn’t typically much action in these types of skits, they can be very effective. Monologues need to have a good focus on the topic and they need drama. If it simply consists of a character telling the audience things, it’s basically just another sermon. When choosing a monologue skit, choose something that will keep the congregation’s attention.
Sinner’s Redemption
There are many Christian skits that center around the redemption of a sinner, or group of sinners. The characters and setting change, but the basic plot is the same. Even though these stick to the same formula, they can work well given the right audience. This type of skit isn’t going to hit home with life-long Christian who are already saved. This type of skit is geared for the searching. So, these types of Christian skits work best when you are doing an outreach ministry program to the community. Just don’t lay it on too thick or you will turn people off. People prefer to see a sinner who accepts Christ and is a happier person, as opposed to a sinner who doesn’t and is carted off to hell.
Informational Christian Skits
Some skits are purely to convey information. An example could be acting out a scene from the Bible. Some people are visual learners and can better comprehend what they see rather than what they read. These types of skits are a wonderful tool for these people. Many Christmas programs include a nativity play. This would be an example of an informational Christian skit. These skits have a wide audience. Even though many people already know these Biblical stories, seeing them acted out makes them fresh again. For those who are unfamiliar with the stories, this is an opportunity to better understand the Bible.
Christian Puppet Show
We can’t forget the kids. Christian puppet shows provide an opportunity to reach out to children (though many adults secretly like them too!) Keep Christian puppet shows upbeat and fun. Children will just have nightmares if you get into the fire and brimstone. Use simple messages that children can easily understand. It’s best to keep it to one message per puppet show. This will help the children remember the moral or lesson.
Humorous Christian Skits
Some skits are just for fun. They may or may not have a deeper message within them. If they do, it is often overshadowed by the jokes. Actually, sometimes this is all right. On some occasions, such as a church sponsored picnic, it is appropriate to just kick back and have fun with your fellow Christians. If the event is more about fellowship than preaching, have some fun with humorous Christian skits.
